I'm not sure what it is about Urban Decay that captures my imagination, but it does. It could be the idea of what will happen to our buildings when humanity is gone. And so, this site (http://home.f01.itscom.net/spiral/research.html) is fantastic. It's in Japanese, but the pictures speak for themselves. Kudos to Jim Rossignol (http://rossignol.cream.org/) for this. I think that it's even more evocative due to the buildings being from such a modern nation.

Popped up to London to visit the British Museum, and see Vanessa Redgrave in Hecuba. The Museum was great, as ever, and I'll post the two photos I took before I started to feel like a tourist rather than a scholar. Lunch was at Starbucks (a place I shouldn't like, but do, despite myself) with a falafel and houmus wrap and cheesecake. I tripped around Oxford street, and purchased 'Leon the pig farmer' on DVD in HMV. If only I had known the amazon prices, then I would have gone the other way around. The play was.. mixed. I haven't studied the text itself, so it was new to me. I knew the review s were mixed (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,14936-1560690,00.html), but the comparison with the Iraq war was layed on with a spade. I giggled the first time the term 'coalition' was used, and when the chorus sang 'sexed up' a ripple went through the audience. Odysseus is given an American accent, and his costume and hair make him into a pantomime baddie. Costumes were generaly good (appart from one pair of chaps), and the suggestion of Islamic dress that the chorus wore was a good touch. If that had been the only touch, then I would have been grateful. Redgrave seemed like she was reading the lines, instead of acting them, and the 'dramatic' pauses seemed like the actor had forgotten the words, or had seen them in the script, and rigidly obeyed. Overall there seemed to be a lack of feeling, and the comparisons to world affairs made it hard to take seriously. Better than a kick in the teeth - 5/10

Well, this is the new dawn! It’s mainly because I want links to various things. I do lose the things at the bottom (lib Dem Blogs etc, but in time, they will return). I’m off to London tomorrow to go to the British Museum (www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk) , and to see Vanessa Redgrave perform in Hecuba. I love the classics trips up to London – last time we had a coach and watched ‘Moulon Rouge’, complete with sing-a-longs (oh the shame!).

Oh well, I'm a little disapointed that it's Ratzinger, who is a J-P 2 clone, I was hoping for the Brazilian guy, who was keen on Liberation Theology, or indeed Arinze, who could have improved relations with Islam. Oh well, he's 78, so shouldn't be about for too long (another year of three Popes perhaps?). I was hoping for a more Liberal guy (even just socialy), but there we are...

I recived a phone call just now from a nice Lib Dem lady, asking for a donation. I gave £20, but in retrospect, how could I have been sure that I gave to the Lib Dems? I may have just given money to some criminal.. hmm.. Oh well, lets hope not.

Well, I've changed my mind, and will be voting Lib Dem. Perhaps. Oh I'm still not sure. I would prefer Labour to get in nationaly instead of the Tories (due to immigration and international aid), but will vote for the Lib Dems in my area, as the Tories are quite unlikly to get in (see the swingometer on the bbc website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/vote2005/swingometer/html/labcon.stm) nationaly, and perhaps the right wing vote will be split between the Tories and UKIP. My plans for my school's mock election are going well, with a combination of posters outlining key policies, and using the fake Tory poster thing to take votes from the Tories. A little gem of mine (in my opinion) is "Like Bush? You'll love Howard", are you thinking what we're thinking?. Ciao!

Yes, you guessed it, I did! 14 minors, no fatalities... I now belong to the "I failed first time, like all the best drivers" group, without belonging to the "I really am a crap driver" group! I'll post a witty, yet facinating comment on a news story a bit later. Ciao!

On another note, I had a confrontation with my fellow worker, in regards to last Thursday, and the kufuffle that it was. I used cunning rhetoric, as well as logic (equating homophobia with recism and sexism) and confounded the person. He told me that I should 'lighten up'...

In contrast to the 7th, I had a rather good time last night. I had the evening off work, and went along to a local pub, in order to see local band 'Bitchpups' play. They are described (by the venue) as "South Wales' new pop funk indy band" (I don't know why the 'alt' spelling of indie way used, but it was) I belive their website is www.Bitchpups.com. They were rather good, but I didn't stay as long as I would have liked. Look out for them in the future!

Ahhh! I had a dreadful time at work last night. When picking through the food taken of the shelves, deciding what to put in for charity, I was informed by a peer that 'Those charity people should get of their arses and work for a living'. I got into a tiz about this, but sort of let it pass, after telling him what the charity does (substance dependence support) and that charity is a 'good thing'. He then went on to enlighten me in regards to his views on asylum seekers, and how they should 'go back to their own country and sort it out'. Now this made me really angry, so I used calm, rational arguments to make my case, and then when he said it was "how he'd been raised" I sighed and called him an immigration fascist. Then three fellow employees (including the manager) decided to show the wide range of their vocabularies by trying to find all the offensive terms for homosexuals that they could. This was after I had asked them to stop, and was therefore breaking company regulations. I felt so low. My faith in humanity has been dented. I did write a post a few hours after it happened, that was an outpouring of emotion, but blogger crashed and I couldn't find it. Great.

Well, the speculation is at an end. The election will be on May 5th (much to the irritation of a friend whose 18th birthday is on... you've guessed it, never mind, he'd have voted Tory anyway) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/vote_2005/frontpage/4409935.stm. I've decided to vote in a tactical way, and go for labour. Although I protested against the Iraq war, The country has done well over the past 7 years, and they are better than the Tories. Naturaly, it would be great if the Lib Dems got in, but that's unlikely, and in my area, they wouldn't get in anyway. I may change my mind on the day, but whatever happens, it is vital to keep the Tories out.

Well, as a bit of a pinko lefty, I've been giving my support to Margot Wallstrom (I don't know how to do the whole two dot over the 'o' thing on this PC), and in responce have been declared 'young and thick' by a UK based eurosceptic.
